Stichting Wegloophuis Utrecht offers shelter, a listening ear, and social support to people in psychological distress. In the interaction between residents, staff, and volunteers, genuine interest, equality, and ‘being there for each other’ are central. We don’t view residents as ‘clients’ with a problem that needs to be ‘solved,’ but as autonomous and independent individuals with whom we engage in a dialogue. We—hopefully—learn just as much from that dialogue as our residents do.
